STORYTELLING FOR ADULTS AT THE BARBICAN

'I could put my hands in front of my face and the pictures would not vanish. They belonged to me.’
The Times

Since 2003, the Crick Crack Club has programmed 9 performance storytelling events a year at the Barbican Centre in London. These events are produced in collaboration with the Barbican Education team. The events are divided into 3 annual seasons of 3 evening performances for adults (sometimes augmented with pre-show talks and discussions) and have featured such artists as Abbi Patrix, Gcina Mhlophe, Hugh Lupton & Daniel Morden, Jan Blake & TUUP, Ben Haggarty, Chirine El Ansary, and many, many others.

Storytelling for Adults at the Barbican Publicity

These performances are held in the Pit Theatre - the award winning black box theatre which seats up to 180 - and these events represent the highest quality programme of regular storytelling for adults in the UK today, with shows often selling out weeks in advance. The audience for these performances is ever growing, and extremely diverse. Over the years they have had the opportunity to see the very best performance pieces, by the very best performers working in the English language. French performance storyteller Abbi Patrix recently commented that this audience is 'almost Shakespearean - jumping from laughter to dramatic silence, and following the storyteller step by step with a delicious feeling of - we're with you, but we are no fools'.

The Crick Crack Club and Barbican Education are now exploring opportunities to commission new performance pieces and to bring on new talent, in order to sustain this standard-setting programme.
