Have you ever wanted to slay a monster, ride a talking horse or turn straw into gold? Or perhaps you've dreamed of taking a trip across the River Styx, or opening Pandora's box? In the world of story, anything is possible. In these series of workshops for adults, Jo Blake Cave invites you to discover the most ancient of the narrative arts. Drawing from a repertoire of folktale, fairytale and myth, you will learn how to deconstruct, reconstruct, interpret and perform a range of stories. These workshops are for anyone with a love of story, a vivid imagination and a willingness to get up and give it a go. Adults. Course places are available by application. Please note: applicants for whom English is a second language must be very fluent, as these courses demand constant spoken word improvisation. Where courses are full, we will try to secure places on future courses for successful applicants.
DESCRIPTION:
Ben Haggarty's residential training and experimental workshop programme for performance storytellers continues in 2012. Focusing exclusively on the oral re-telling of traditional tales (folk tales, fairy tales, epics and myths), these courses are for a maximum of 8 students at a time. They take place in the rural Worcestershire-Herefordshire borders. These courses are for those whose professional interest is in the public performance of stories. Foundation Week 1 (F1) - Basic Compositional Techniques. This is a basic introductory workshop that introduces the different genres of traditional narrative; the function of imagination in storytelling; the work of language, and then introduces some key compositional tools. Workshop duration 5 full days. Cost £325 (meals and basic accommodation for 5 nights are provided free.)

Also, former students of Ben Haggarty who have previously attended both the courses that have been held annually at the Unicorn Theatre since 2007, and in numerous countries overseas (i.e. his '2 day introductory storytelling course' and his '2 day intermediate storytelling course') may be eligible to start with foundation week 2. (This may also apply to certain students who have only attended his '2 day intermediate storytelling course'). Where courses are full, we will try to secure places on future courses for successful applicants.
