PRINCIPLES OF MOVEMENT IN STORYTELLING

Ben Haggarty
FRI 7 JUNE, 7.30PM - SUN 9 JUNE 2024, 5PM - SOLD OUT

Aimed at those who already have some practical experience of telling stories, this short and intense residential workshop looks at how ‘The Body Speaks’.

It introduces a practical grammar and framework for understanding how gestures, movements and displacements support and clarify storytelling based on the reworking and retelling of folktale, fairytale myth and epic. What is signalled by deliberate movement and what is betrayed by unconscious movement?

The workshop is for those already familiar with the improvised spoken word paradigm of performance storytelling and who have a basic repertoire of traditional narratives that can be drawn on readily. It aims to furnish participants with the practical knowledge to start integrating these principals into their own work, and to also assess what deeper specific training in the areas of body knowledge and movement (martial arts, dance, mime, etc) they might seek.

LOCATION: A secret little studio space in the rural Worcestershire-Herefordshire borders (N.B cat in residence)
